History

Having moved from Liverpool, the home of Orthopaedics, in 1958, S. Reed & Co. soon became established in Blackburn, Lancashire, manufacturing a wide range of bespoke surgical appliances and footwear for the NHS.

Hard work, fuelled by youthfull enthusiasm, saw the business grow from strength to strength.

In 2001, now bearing the name Reed Medical Ltd, the company relocated to a purpose built factory in Shadsworth, concentrating operations on the manufacture of Orthopaedic Footwear.

The product range includes high street comfort shoes under the Joan Cope brand, through stock and modular, to complex bespoke footwear, making Reed Medical one of the leading footwear manufacturers to the NHS.

Investment in new technology and modern machinery is enabling the Reed Medical design team to combine high street styling with orthotic function.
